Porto Santo - An Introduction

There is no better
hiding place than Porto Santo. Remote from the island of Madeira, which is
itself remote from the world, Porto Santo is a blissful sanctuary for those
needing a break from the relentless demands of modern life. Wandering the
shaded, wind-cooled, cobbled streets of Porto Santo’s main town, Vila Baleira,
amid the terracotta roofed and green-shuttered dwellings, the universe shrinks
to a manageable size. And as visitors and locals alike recharge their batteries
- either stretched out on the golden sandy beach or sipping a cool drink in the
shade of a palm tree - it’s easy to feel that one has somehow been accepted
into a secret fraternity whose chief commitment is to a cheerful and relaxed
life. Porto Santo is sunny, safe, quiet and unconditionally welcoming.
